08-270 Common Corner Notch Point made from Knife River chalcedony
from North Dakota. A common point type made out of an uncommon
material! As the story goes, a swamp was buried, turned into
lignite, then "silicified," turning it into chalcedony. This
formation was later eroded out and the chalcedony is now found as
cobbles in the resulting gravel. When this point is held up to the
light, it is a beautiful translucent, honey color with white flicks
showing. These specks are pieces of fossilized cattail leaves from
the old swamp! Length, 3 3/16
inches. Price, $30. |

08-193 Stone Square Stem point made from Cotter chert. This is one
of the most common Middle Archaic point types to be found in the
MO and AR Ozarks. They were named after Stone Co. MO and many
were made from the local Cotter Dolomite chert. Length, 3 5/8
inches. Price, $20.

08-154 Calf Creek type point
made from heat treated Burlington-Crescent chert. Due to some
irregularities in the base, I was unable to push the notches any
deeper, so I "quit while I still had a head!" Length, 3 3/4
inches. Price, $20.

06-99 Bottleneck point made from
highly heat treated Flint Ridge chert. In Ohio, this Middle Archaic
type is called a "Bottleneck" due to the shape of its stem. In
Missouri, they were named after "Table Rock" Lake where a number of
them were found. The Ohio points are usually of higher quality and
the edges of their stems are heavily ground and polished as they saw
use as knives. Length, 2 7/8 inches. Price, $15.
